Yohji Yamamoto launched his career in 1974 and has become one of the most well-known Japanese designers in the world, having completely changed the fashion industry after his first presentation at the Paris Collection in 1984. Fusing traditional Japanese clothing and Western suit pieces, Yamamoto’s signature lineups consist of dark billowing silhouettes of structured outerwear, shirts printed with Japanese art, and flowing trousers. Although Yamamoto was initially interested in designing mens clothes which were meant to be worn by women, his avant-garde designs have gained popularity amongst all genders.
