Jean Paul Gaultier was founded in France in 1976. He attracted attention with his innovative designs that challenged gender and common sense, such as marine stripes, men's skirts, and corsets, and was called the "maverick of the fashion world" in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he designed Madonna's cone bra costumes, and had a huge impact on pop culture. In addition, his unique eyewear was loved by many hip-hop artists such as 2Pac, Jay-Z, and A$AP Rocky, and he has deeply penetrated the music scene. In 2015, the ready-to-wear line was discontinued, leaving only the perfume and couture lines. Although Gaultier himself retired in 2020, the ready-to-wear line was revived from the fall/winter 2025 season.
