Designer Shunta Nakajima launched his “Post-Japonism” inspired brand ALMOSTBLACK in 2015. The name was derived from “kachiiro”, an indigo color that is so dark that it is almost black. Garments were made from fabrics of this color for Samurai as a symbol of luck starting in the Heian Period (794-1185) and through to military officers in later periods. ALMOSTBLACK’s collections incorporate kachiiro into their pieces, as well as modernized silhouettes of traditional Japanese garments.
